Frequently Asked Questions — Next Canvas

About the Artworks

What does "original" mean at Next Canvas?

Every work listed on Next Canvas is a one-of-one, hand-painted original. The artist worked on it by hand — no prints were made from it, no digital reproduction exists on the platform. When you buy it, you own the only physical version of that work in the world.

Do you sell prints or reproductions?

No. We have never listed a print, giclée, poster, or digital reproduction. If it is on Next Canvas, it is an original. This is not a policy we apply selectively — it is the only kind of work we accept from artists.

How do I know the artwork is authentic?

Every work ships with a Letter of Authenticity that includes the artist's name, the title of the work, the medium, dimensions, year of completion, and Next Canvas certification. We verify this directly with the artist before listing. The letter travels with the artwork.

What is a Letter of Authenticity and what does it include?

It is a signed document confirming the work's provenance. It states: the artist's full name, the title, medium, size, year completed, and that the work is an original. It is specific to that artwork — not a generic certificate.

Can I buy the same painting twice?

No. Each painting exists once.

Artists

How do you select artists for Next Canvas?

Our curatorial team reviews submissions based on the quality and consistency of the work, the artist's practice and background, and whether the medium and subject fit what collectors on our platform are looking for. We currently represent 100+ Indian-origin artists and add new ones selectively.

Are all your artists Indian?

Yes. Next Canvas currently represents only Indian-origin artists. This is a deliberate curatorial choice, not a restriction — Indian contemporary art is the focus of the platform.

Can I contact an artist directly?

We handle all transactions and communication on behalf of our artists. If you have a specific question about an artist's practice or want to know more about a particular work, contact us at nextcanvas.art/pages/contact and we will connect you.

Can I commission a work from one of your artists?

Some artists are open to commissions. Reach out through our contact page with details of what you have in mind — size, subject, medium — and we will tell you if it is possible and give you a timeline and pricing.

Buying

How do I choose the right artwork for my home?

Start with the wall you have in mind — its dimensions, the light it gets, and what else is around it. Then think about whether you want something that leads the room or something that fits into it quietly. If you are unsure, our 1:1 Advisory service exists precisely for this. We will ask you questions, look at your space, and suggest works that will actually work there.

What is the 1:1 Art Advisory service?

It is a free, personalised consultation with our curatorial team. You tell us about your space, your taste, and your budget. We shortlist works from the platform that fit. It is useful whether you are buying for the first time or adding to an existing collection. Book it at nextcanvas.art/pages/advisory.

What price range do your works start at?

Works start at ₹13,440 and go up to ₹15,00,000+. The majority of our catalogue sits between ₹25,000 and ₹2,00,000. You can browse by budget at the bottom of our homepage.

Can I buy art as a gift?

Yes. We can arrange gift packaging and include a handwritten note. If you want help choosing something for a specific person or occasion, the advisory service is a good place to start — give us a brief and we will suggest works.

What payment methods do you accept?

We accept all major credit and debit cards, UPI, and net banking. Payment is processed securely.

Delivery

Do you ship outside India?

Not currently. We deliver within India only. If you are an international buyer, stay on our mailing list — we are working on it.

How long does delivery take?

Most works are delivered within 7–14 business days within India. Works that require special framing or packaging may take a little longer. You will receive tracking details once the work ships.

How is the artwork packaged?

Each work is packaged with acid-free materials to protect the surface, then wrapped and boxed for transit. Larger canvases are crated. We have shipped works across India without damage — the packaging is taken seriously.

Is shipping insured?

Yes. Every shipment is insured for its full value. In the unlikely event of damage in transit, contact us immediately with photographs and we will resolve it.

Returns and Care

What is your returns policy?

If the work arrives damaged, contact us within 48 hours with photographs and we will arrange a replacement or full refund. We do not accept returns on the basis of change of preference — original artworks are not returnable in the way products are. If you are uncertain about a work before buying, use the advisory service first.

How do I care for an original painting?

Keep it away from direct sunlight, high humidity, and extreme temperature changes. Dust lightly with a dry, soft cloth if needed. For framed works, avoid hanging near air conditioning vents or damp walls. If you need specific care advice for a medium, contact us.
