Know about the artwork

This figurative work captures the raw intensity of flame through bold strokes and a palette that moves from deep crimsons to amber gold. Working in what appears to be oil on canvas, Basak builds layers of color that seem to flicker and dance across the surface. Fire becomes both subject and metaphor. The interplay between warm oranges and cooler shadowed areas gives the piece its sense of movement and heat.

Basak's technique here relies on confident brushwork that mirrors the unpredictable nature of flame itself. The paint application varies from thick impasto in the brightest areas to more fluid passages where colors blend and merge. This approach creates texture that catches light differently across the canvas, adding to the work's dynamic quality. The artist's control over such an energetic subject shows real technical maturity.

Original works exploring elemental themes like fire carry particular weight in a collection. They speak to universal human experiences while remaining deeply personal to each viewer. Basak's interpretation offers something beyond decorative appeal. It brings a sense of warmth and energy that transforms a room's atmosphere. Hand-painted originals by emerging Indian artists represent both cultural value and potential appreciation as the contemporary Indian art market continues to develop.

Atin Basak

Atin Basak (b. 1966, Kolkata) is a distinguished printmaker whose etchings and lithographs evoke the contemplative spirit of Eastern philosophy. His works often depict solitary sages and recluses—figures removed from the chaos of modern life, yet deeply perceptive and wise. Through masterful control of texture and tone, Basak imbues his subjects with a quiet strength and introspective depth, often layering them with Sanskrit scripts to evoke timeless tradition and spiritual wisdom.

Trained in painting in Kolkata and holding a master’s degree in printmaking from Baroda, Basak has received numerous accolades, including the Charles Wallace India Trust Arts Award and a French Government scholarship. His works are held in major institutional and private collections across India and abroad, including the National Gallery of Modern Art, Lalit Kala Akademi, and the British Council. His art continues to bridge the personal and the philosophical with quiet power and precision.
